Spreading the Holiday Cheer: Shepard Giving Outwardly

| Written by Nicole Coffey on December 21, 2018

Our hearts are full of holiday cheer this season at Shepard! The last two weeks associates across the nation participated in holiday giving and volunteerism as a heartwarming illustration of Shepard’s commitment to giving back to our communities. The response from Shepard associates was overwhelming, and in two short weeks our organization was able to provide holiday provisions to over a hundred families.

Annual Atlanta Branch Angel Tree Sponsorship

Each year our Atlanta branch comes together to sponsor an array of children that may not otherwise enjoy a holiday experience. This year, in merely two short weeks, our associates came together to provide gifts and groceries for 40 families through the Angel Tree program. Our associates were feeling extra generous this year, and with additional funds, we were able to also send 31 gift cards to Calvary Children’s Home and 7 gift bags for girls in a group home for abused teenagers. The outpouring of generosity truly manifested the holiday spirit in our Atlanta branch!

Las Vegas Hospitality Association’s annual “Fill A Bag with Cheer” Holiday Program

The Las Vegas Hospitality Association is the third largest association in Nevada and their annual “Fill-A-Bag with Cheer” program was conceived and implemented in 2007 as a way to provide holiday opportunities to underprivileged children each year. In conjunction with the Clark County School District, LVHA chooses a local elementary school with an unprecedented number of underprivileged children. The chosen school then provides LVHA with a list of students who can benefit from this program, including useful information such as their grade, clothing and shoe sizes, favorite colors and favorite characters. Shepard team members provided logistics, prepared bags for distribution, and served as an official drop off location for completed gifts. LVHA members and community partners also had the opportunity to “adopt” one or more children from the school and provide them with additional holiday gifts. Shepard team members personally adopted children either individually or as a department, adopting a total of 15 children. LVHA, its members and community partners throw a small party and personally deliver their Bags of Cheer to the children. The program has grown to support over 500 underprivileged children annually in its short history, and truly brings the holiday spirit to all involved.

Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth’s 3rd Annual “That’s A Wrap” Block Party

Shepard participated and assisted in Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth’s 3rd Annual “It’s a Wrap” Holiday Block Party benefiting the Homeless Teens in Southern Nevada. The Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth is the most comprehensive service provider for the thousands of homeless youth in Southern Nevada. NPHY’s programs stabilize homeless teens’ lives, meeting their immediate needs while providing a safe, supportive environment and a path to self-sufficiency. Shepard joined many other industry members and community businesses in making the holiday season a little brighter for homeless youths in Southern Nevada. All companies worked together to set up a store consisting of donated items, gift wrapping, card making and ornament stations.  When participants arrived, they were given a wish list of items pertaining to a specific youth to shop for in the on-site store.  They then moved on to wrap those gifts, create a personalized card for their gift recipient and make an ornament for them to hang on their trees. By the time each volunteer reached the end of the project line and dropped off the wrapped gifts, a personal connection was felt with the young person they created a holiday for.  It was an emotional and heart-warming event!
