In the last 72 hours we have received a multitude of inquires in regard to our
associates here in Atlanta due to the recent tornado that we experienced. The care
and concern displayed by all has been thoughtful and greatly appreciated.
We would like to take a moment to update you on what we know at this point as
it pertains to business in the downtown area. Only 600 of the 92,000 hotel rooms
were affected by the storm and the Georgia World Congress Center suffered the most
damage. The good news is that the majority of the damage to the GWCC is only cosmetic
and the restoration crews have been hard at work repairing the damage since Saturday,
March 15th.
Although there were cancellation of events this week due to the clean up and safety
issues pertaining to the fire alarm and sprinkler system, the prognosis is good; the
building will be open for business very soon. For official status we are awaiting the
fire marshal and safety engineer approvals for occupancy.
Reports from the media regarding closing of downtown streets inadequately portray
the current conditions. There are street closings, but this is for public safety due
to glass being replaced in some of the buildings and to increase the efficiency in the
cleanup effort of the affected areas. Once the clean up and replacement in these areas
have been completed, streets will be reopened, and within a short amount of time there
will be no physical evidence that a storm occurred.
Thank you again for your concerns and if you have any questions, please contact us.
Thank you,
